Wetlands Protection Program

The Wetlands Protection Program is currently in the process of developing a comprehensive wetlands study. Once established, the Tribes will have full capability to protect, manage, and restore wetlands within the exterior boundaries of the Fort Peck Indian Reservation.

The Tribes are drafting an Aquatic Lands Ordinance that will give the Tribes regulatory authority over the same activities the Federal Government Program regulates.

The Tribes are also working to develop a monitoring and assessment program for wetlands by testing and calibrating to known methods using vascular plants to assess wetland conditions.
