Environmental Enforcement
Department
The Environmental Enforcement Department is responsible for the investigation of alleged violations of environmental laws and regulations administered by the Fort Peck Tribes Office of Environmental Protection (OEP) and the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
The Environmental Enforcement Department is involved with all aspects of the environment:
- Air
- Water
- Pesticides
- Wetlands
|
- Brownfields
- Underground injection control
- Underground storage tanks
- Solid and hazardous waste
|
Additional duties of the Environmental Enforcement Specialist include inspections, case management, interpretation of laws and rules, consultation in compliance and enforcement matters, and informational assistance to the public.
Personnel of the Environmental Enforcement Department are often required to confront people who have committed violations either willfully or accidentally. Occasionally the confrontations elevate into more serious situations if the party, or parties, become hostile. However, most matters are resolved peacefully by informing parties of the environmental regulations that are relevant to the matter at hand and how they can comply with them.
